THE STORY COMING IN : Greenville enters tonight's contest on a two-game slide and in fourth place in the East Division (20 points). The Road Warriors are also sixth in the Eastern Conference and 6-6-0-0 during the month of November. Last time out, special teams was the difference as the Road Warriors fell to Wheeling 4-2 on Wednesday. In that contest, the Nailers went 2-for-6 on the power play, while Greenville was scoreless in four chances and failed to come back from an early three-goal deficit. Tonight, the Road Warriors play their seventh straight game away from the Bon Secours Wellness Arena and Sandlapper Securities Rink. The Warriors will look to avoid their first three-game losing streak this season.
WARRIORS VS. ROYALS : Tonight's game marks the first of three meetings this season between the new East Division rivals (all three games will be played in Reading). Last year, Greenville went 2-0-0-0 against the Royals including a 6-2 win at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in their last game on Feb. 23, 2014. Overall, the Road Warriors are 5-7-1 in 13 all-time regular-season meetings. The two cities are separated by 633 miles.
VIEW FROM READING : The Royals enter tonight's game on a conference-high seven-game point streak that dates back to Nov. 14th. The streak has helped to move Reading to fifth place in the East Division and seventh in the Eastern Conference. Last time out, defenseman Adam Comrie scored twice, but the Royals fell in a shootout to Elmira, 4-3, last Wednesday. The club's offense is currently led by Adam Hughesman with 18 points (5g, 13a). Hughesman is currently in a tie for eighth in league scoring. The Royals are affiliated with the Philadelphia Flyers (NHL) and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms (AHL).
BROWN'S 200TH GAME : Tyler Brown will hit a milestone on tonight as the 24-year old will play his 200th professional game. In his first season with Greenville, Brown spent the last three years with the Adirondack Phantoms (AHL), where he earned 32 points (14g, 18a) in 182 games.
MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE : Despite taking the loss on Wednesday, goaltender Jeff Malcolm has won eight of his last 11 games and is currently eighth in the league with a 2.16 goals against average (GAA). In addition, Malcolm has earned an impressive 1.91 GAA and .935 save percentage over his last 11 games and has only allowed more than two goals on four occasions this season.
SAPONARI HEATING UP : Vinny Saponari has scored in three of his last four games and now leads the Warriors' active roster with six goals on the season. Last year, the 24-year old earned a career-best 15 goals and 33 points in 58 games with the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals.
KEEPING PERFECT : The Road Warriors are 3-0-0 when leading after the first, 9-0-0 when scoring at least three goals and 6-0-0 when scoring at least once on the power play. The club is also 4-0-0 in one-goal games and 4-0-0 when playing on Friday night.
SPECIAL TEAMS STRUGGLES : The Road Warriors' power play is currently 0-for-17 during the last six contests and has not scored on the man advantage since going 2-for-8 against Gwinnett on Nov. 14th. In addition, Greenville's penalty kill is just 9-for-13 over its last four games (69.2%) after starting the season 27-for-27.
COMEBACK KIDS : The Warriors have earned 60% (6-of-10) of the team's wins this season after trailing at some point in the game. Greenville's success in coming from behind is due to a potent third-period offense that has outscored opponents 25-15, including 13-7 following the 10-minute mark of the third period. The Warriors also boast a league-high four wins (4-7-0) when trailing after two periods.
