Florida Fishes 5-1 Win Away from WesBanco Arena
November 28, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV- The Florida Everblades have begun the 2014-15 season as one of the hottest teams in the ECHL. On Friday night, they continued their success, winning for the sixth time in a row. Five different players found the back of the net, while Zach Yuen scored the lone goal for the Wheeling Nailers in a 5-1 Florida win at WesBanco Arena.
Florida flew out of the gates in the first period, scoring the evening's first two goals, while outshooting the Nailers, 13-2. The two markers were separated by only 43 seconds, starting wtih Alex Aleardi, who dangled his way through the slot, finishing off his opportunity from the right side of the slot. Aleardi was also involved in the scoring of the Everblades' second goal, as he stole the puck on the left side, setting up Mike Aviani, who picked the top corner from low in the left circle.
Wheeling answered back with a better middle frame, outshooting its guests by an 11-5 margin, while closing the gap on the scoreboard to one. David Makowski slid a pass to the middle of the blueline for Zach Yuen, who clobbered a one-timer through traffic and into the net for a power play goal. Shane Bakker also assisted on Yuen's second power play goal of the campaign, which made him the first Nailer this season with multiple tallies on the man advantage.
Unfortunately, the third period didn't go as well for the home team, as the Everblades quickly rebuilt their two-goal lead at the 2:01 mark of the stanza. John McInnis banged in a loose puck at the top of the crease, just as Wheeling had gotten back to even strength. Artem Sergeev's wrist shot from the right wing wall extended the Florida lead with 7:53 remaining, before Jeff Costello completed the 5-1 win for the Everblades, slamming in a one-timer from the slot.
Daniel Altshuller got the win for Florida, making 20 saves on 21 shots. Eric Hartzell was on the other side of the equation for Wheeling, blocking 22 of the 27 shots he faced.
The Nailers will host the Everblades again on Saturday, with face-off scheduled for 7:35.
