IceMen Fight Back But Fall in OT to Jackals

November 28, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Evansville IceMen News Release

ELMIRA, N.Y.- For the second consecutive game, the Evansville IceMen, presented by Coors Light, entered the third period down by two goals, and for the second consecutive night, the IceMen fought back to tie it up. However, this time the Elmira Jackals (11-5-0-3, 25 points) scored on a breakaway in overtime as they stopped the IceMen (7-7-1-1, 16 points) by a score 3-2.

The Jackals got two goals in the first period. Matt Tassone scored on a power play to put Elmira up 1-0. Evansville had killed off nine consecutive man advantages before Tassone's tally and would kill four more before the night was over.

Later in the first, Allan McPherson broke away and had a free shot at Branden Komm. The IceMen netminder made the initial save but the rebound went behind the net, where McPherson picked it up and put it in to give Elmira a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

Komm responded by shutting out the Jackals in the second period. He turned away all 15 Elmira tries in the second frame . The rookie goaltender stopped 42 shots on a busy night.

In the third period, Evansville answered. Andre Bouvet- Morrissette rifled a slapshot past Sam Marrota to cut the Elmira lead to 2-1. Patrick Kennedy and former Jackal, Troy Rutkowski picked up the assists on Morrissette's fifth goal of the season. The Quebecer has lit the lamp in three consecutive games.

On a 5-on-3 power play, the IceMen knotted it up. Kale Kerbashian won a faceoff back to Zach Currie. Currie went cross-ice to Danny Hobbs, who blasted a slapshot into the back of the net for his second goal of the season.

Neither team could break the 2-2 tie in regulation so the IceMen went to overtime for just the third time this season. Komm made 12 more saves in third period, while Marrota turned back 11 IceMen attempts.

In the extra period, Mike Seidel stole the puck and scored a breakaway goal to secure a 3-2 win for the Jackals. Marrotta picked up the win for the Jackals with 31 saves.

Evansville and Elmira meet again tomorrow night. The puck is scheduled to drop at 6:05 central time from New York. Join the official IceMen Watch party at Bar Louie for tomorrow night's game.
