
Saunders and the Eagles Shut Out Reign, 3-0

LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles (10-5-0-0) took down the Ontario Reign (10-7-0-2), in style with a 3-0 shutout on Friday evening at the Budweiser Events Center. Eagles forward Nathan Moon assisted on all three goals, forward Darryl Bootland came away with his second Gordie Hat Trick of the season while goalie Clarke Saunders earned his first professional shutout.
After a scoreless first period, Bootland found the back of the net on the power play just 1:14 into the second frame with help from linemates Trent Daavettila and Moon to give Colorado the 1-0 advantage.
Five minutes and forty-seven seconds into the third stanza Eagles defenseman Curtis Gedig beat Ontario netminder Jussi Olkinuora for the second time on the power play to gain the 2-0 lead over the Reign. With 6:22 left in the third, Eagles defenseman Brett Kulak found himself on a short breakaway in the low slot as he recorded the Eagles third goal of the night to give them the 3-0 lead over the Reign. Saunders held off 26 of Ontario's 26 shots to earn the Eagles first shutout of the season 3-0.
