Komets Scorch K-Wings
November 28, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
KALAMAZOO- Goaltender Oscar Dansk made the most of the Kalamazoo Wings debut posting a team season-high 43 saves, but it wouldn't be enough to fend off the conference leading Fort Wayne Komets. Scoring three goals in the second period, the Komets defeated the K-Wings 4-1 Friday night at Wings Stadium.
Starting the game by killing off two power-plays, including a five-minute major infraction, the K-Wings were able to settle down and take the lead midway in the period. Following the second penalty-kill, Nathan Longpre capped off an odd-man rush by finding Justin Taylor for his first goal of the season.
The K-Wings lead marked the first time in their six games against the Komets that Kalamazoo has held the lead after the first period.
Trailing on the scoreboard after 20 minutes didn't seem to bother the Komets, who responded in the second period with three unanswered goals.
Eric Faille (7th) scored on a shorthanded breakaway 8:15 into the period to tie the game at 1-1. The shorthanded marker was the first surrendered this season by the K-Wings.
Special teams continue to pave the way for the Komets. Capitalizing on a four-on-three power-play, Shawn Szylowski (7th) put Fort Wayne ahead for good with 2:20 remaining in the period.
The Komets added to their lead with 47 seconds left in the middle frame with a goal from Garrett Meurs (2nd).
The lone goal in the final period was tacked on by Fort Wayne's Nathan Condon. With Dansk pulled for an extra skater, Condon sent in a shot into the vacant net for his fourth goal of the season.
The K-Wings will continue their four-game home stand with the second-leg tomorrow, Saturday, November 29th, with a 7:30 p.m. face-off versus the Toledo Walleye during Movember Mustache Party Night presented by Proper, Midwest Custom Embroidery, Urban Hair Salon, Full Blown Color, Kal-Blue and The Traveler Beer Company .
To go along with the game promotion, the K-Wings will host a Mustache Mile Walk, which will occur at 5:15 p.m. this Saturday. Ticket packages for the game will be $25, $21, and $14. Proceeds from the ticket packages are going to the West Michigan Cancer Center. Ticket packages include a ticket to the game, commemorative t-shirt, mustache and entry to the pre-game Mustache Mile Walk.
Between now and Wednesday, December 10th fans that come to any K-Wings home game can register to win two tickets to the Detroit Red Wings game on December 16th versus the Columbus Blue Jackets. The prize also includes a special meet and greet after the game in the Olympia Club.
Tickets for all K-Wings home games are currently on sale at Wings Stadium Ticket Office, all Ticketmaster locations, including www.ticketmaster.com or by calling (800) 745-3000.
Fans that plan on attending multiple games can avoid service fees plus enjoy a discount from the single-game price by purchasing a 12, 24 or 36-game flexi-plan.
