Steelheads Topped By Salmon Kings 4-1
November 21, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release
Boise, ID- Salmon Kings' goaltender Julien Ellis stopped 29 shots and three visiting skaters registered multiple points, as the Steelheads were defeated 4-1 in front of 3,264 fans at Qwest Arena on Wednesday night.
The Steelheads (4-4-6) are now winless in three games and they trail the West Division leading Salmon Kings (11-3-0) by eight points.
Just 1:34 into the first period the Salmon Kings took a 1-0 lead on Jordan Krestanovich's even-strength tally, his second of the year. Wes Goldie and Kiel McLeod picked up the assists, as Krestanovich gathered a rebound off the chest protector of Steelheads' goaltender Steve Silverthorn (22 saves) and swept the puck just underneath his right pad.
Krestanovich's marker was the only goal of the opening 20 minutes, as the Steelheads out-shot the visitors 12-6.
Marc-Andre Bernier collected his third goal of the campaign at 2:22 of the second period to increase the Salmon Kings lead to 2-0. Again, Wes Goldie grabbed a helper.
Through two periods, the Steelheads led in shots 25-13 but trailed 2-0.
Seven minutes into the third Milan Gajic collected a loose puck in front of Silverthorn and connected on a power play goal to make it 3-0. Patrick Coulombe and Ash Goldie added the assists.
Lance Galbraith helped the Steelheads avoid a shutout by tipping Marty Flichel's left point shot past Ellis to cut the deficit to 3-1 at the 11:07 mark of the third period. Galbraith's fifth goal in the last six games and sixth of the season was a power play tally, marking the seventh straight game the club has scored on the man advantage.
Minutes later, Ash Goldie scored off an odd-man rush to cap the scoring and send the Salmon Kings to their sixth straight win. Kevin Estrada and Gajic picked up the assists.
For the game, the Steelheads out-shot the Salmon Kings 30-24.
The Steelheads have Thanksgiving off before continuing their series with the Salmon Kings on Friday, November 23. The puck drops at 7:10 p.m. MST. All the action can be heard live on 1350 AM, KTIK "The Ticket" or via the B2 Networks. Don't forget, Steelheads' single-game tickets can be purchased via www.idahosteelheads.com (using the print-at-home feature), by calling 331-TIXS or from the Qwest Arena box office.
