Florida's Damon Named In Glas Co Player Of The Week

Derek Damon of the Florida Everblades is the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for Nov. 12-18.

The 27 year old had six goals, including a game winner and three on the power play, and four assists to help the Everblades go 2-2-0 on the road and move into third place in the South Division.

The Bangor, Maine native had his first career hat trick in a 4-3 loss at Columbia on Nov. 13 and then scored a power-play goal and had an assist in a 5-4 shootout win at Charlotte on Nov. 16. He closed out the week with a power-play goal, the game-winning goal and two assists in a 4-2 win at South Carolina on Nov. 17.

Called up to the American Hockey League by the Albany River Rats on Monday, Damon is tied for the ECHL lead with 20 points (9g-11a) in 13 games. The 6-foot and 195-pound forward is tied for fourth in the ECHL with 11 assists, tied for fifth with nine goals and tied for ninth with four power-play goals.

As a rookie with Florida in 2006-07, Damon had 48 points (20g-28a) and 46 penalty minutes in 56 regular season games and seven points (5g-2a) and 20 penalty minutes in 16 Kelly Cup Playoff games. He also played three games with Lowell in the AHL in 2005-06.

Damon played four seasons at the University of Maine where he had 111 points (51g-60a) and 185 penalty minutes in 159 games.

On behalf of Derek Damon, a case of pucks will be donated to an Estero area youth hockey organization by In Glas Co, the exclusive puck supplier for the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, In Glas Co has donated more than 18,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
