Utah Grizzlies News Release

Boise, Idaho- The Idaho Steelheads scored four goals in the first period, and that was all the offence they needed in a 6-3 victory over the Utah Grizzlies on Friday night in Idaho.

The Steelheads jumped to an early lead with an unassisted goal by D'Arcy McConvey just 20 seconds into the first. That goal was followed by a pair from David Bararuk, the first a power play goal, at the 6:47 mark, and the second coming at the 9:08 point. Mike Stutzel picked up assists on both of Bararuk's goals. McConvey capped the first period scoring with his second of the game with less than two minutes remaining.

The Grizzlies put the pressure on during the first few minutes of the second period. Matt Craig picked up his own rebound and scored a wrap-around goal on the power play at 1:41 of the period, assisted by Barret Ehgoetz and Tom Reimann. Just over ten minutes later, Travis Rycroft tipped the puck in to cut the lead to 4-2 Idaho. Brad Herauf and Colt King collected assists on that goal. But the Steelheads answered back on a 5-on-3 power play; Marty Flichel put the puck in the net, assisted by Jonathan Zion and Justin Cox, and increased the score to 5-2 going into the second intermission.

The third period started slowly, but Tom Reimann put a slapshot past Idaho goaltender Matt Yeats to put the Grizzlies back on the scoreboard, assists went to Travis Rycroft and Brad Herauf, and cut the Idaho lead to two goals. Idaho's Garrett Bembrige scored the Steelheads' final goal with 5:39 remaining to make it 6-3. With the win, Idaho moved 3 points ahead of Utah for third place in the West Division, and Utah fell to 13-9-2 on the season.

The two teams play again tomorrow night, December 17, in Idaho. Face-off is at 7:10 p.m.
