Anthony Battaglia's two-goal second period included thegame-winning goal for the Augusta Lynx as they skated past the South CarolinaStingrays 5-2 at the North Charleston Coliseum on Friday night.
Jeff Mason opened the scoring with the lone goal of thefirst period. Mason took a Dan Sullivanfeed at 16:37, beating Maxime Daigneault under the pads for a 1-0 Lynxlead. Nicolas Corbeil also grabbed anassist on the goal and extended his scoring streak to 10 games.
Battaglia would take advantage of a good bounce at 5:25 ofthe second period for his first of the game, with the puck kicking off a stanchionin the glass on a routine clear to allow him an unobstructed shot on goal thatbeat Daigneault to the blocker side. At9:02, Battaglia registered his second of the game when he took a long breakawaypass from Eric Lundberg and broke in alone, beating Daigneault again on thestick side to make it 3-0 Lynx. Martin Lapointealso collected an assist on the goal.
That goal would prove to be the end of the night for Daigneault,replaced by Davis Parley after allowing three goals on 12 shots. South Carolina would manage to get back in the game with aJonas Johansson goal at 12:57 from Deryk Engelland to make it a 3-1 contestafter two periods of play.
The Lynx and Stingrays traded goals early in the thirdperiod to push the game to 4-2, with Martin Lapointe scoring first fromSullivan and Joel Stepp, followed by a reply from Trevor Johnson for South Carolina.
With the game still at a two-goal margin during the finalminute and Parley on the bench for the extra attacker, Corbeil scored anempty-net goal to cement the 5-2 final for Augusta. Sullivan and Stepp picked up the assists on the goal at 19:33.
Mike Wall earned the win for Augusta with 31 saves, while Daigneault tookthe loss and Parley ended the night with 14 stops.
