San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO - Chris Kenady scored twice and Christian Larrivee notched two assists, leading the Long Beach Ice Dogs to a 3-1 win over the San Diego Gulls Friday night in a second-place showdown at the ipayOne Center.

Long Beach (12-11-2) takes sole possession of the second spot in the Pacific Division, now two points ahead of San Diego (10-9-4). The Gulls, who still have two games in hand on the Ice Dogs, fall five points behind the first-place Fresno Falcons.

The Ice Dogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead on first-period goals by Kenady and Dan Watson, with Watson's coming short-handed. Kenady struck first at the 15:42 mark, beating Gulls goaltender Tyler Weiman from between the circles. Justin Aikins and Larrivee earned assists on the play.

Watson's short-handed marker came at 19:55, while San Diego was on its fifth power play of the frame. After Jimmy Bonneau worked the puck loose from behind the net, he fed the point to an open Watson, who blasted a slapper past a screened Weiman for his first tally of the year.

San Diego cut the Long Beach lead in half 10:04 into the second period, thanks to Alex Kim's nice setup play to Jason Reimers. Kim, who notched the game-winners in the Gulls' previous two games, made a nifty move into the slot before dropping a pass to a wide-open Reimers. The third-year defenseman then snuck in a couple steps and beat Ice Dogs netminder Greg Hewitt for his first goal of the year.

Kenady made it a 3-1 game 8:14 into the third with his second goal of the night - seventh of the season. Larrivee found his open linemate streaking down the middle and Kenady did the rest, roofing a shot over Weiman's out-stretched glove.
