Idaho Steelheads News Release

Forwards D'Arcy McConvey and David Bararuk each netted two goals in the first 20 minutes of play, powering the Steelheads to a 6-3 win over the Utah Grizzlies in front of 3,973 fans on Friday night at Qwest Arena.

McConvey scored just 20 seconds into the first period, on the second shot of the game. The unassisted goal was the captain's 11th of the season and it was the fastest goal to open a home game for the Steelheads (15-6-1) this season.

Bararuk registered the next two goals, one at 6:47 on the power play, and the other at 9:08, which was even-strength. The Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan native now has 12 markers in 19 games this season. Furthermore, Bararuk is second on the team in home scoring, with 15 points in just nine games in Boise.

Bararuk's second tally sent Grizzlies' (13-9-2) goaltender Alfie Michaud to the bench, in favor of Justin Eddy. At that point, Michaud had stopped just three of the six shots he faced.

With 1:31 left in the opening stanza, McConvey got his second of the evening. Forward Scott Burt and defenseman Jarad Bourassa got the assists.

The four-goal, first period ties a season-high for goals in a 20-minute span the Steelheads, who have now accomplished the feat three times this season.

The Grizzlies made it a two-goal game in the second period, with two straight goals. Just 1:41 into the frame, rookie Matt Craig notched his 17th goal of the season. Barret Eghoetz and Tom Reimann recorded the assists. Then, at 11:53, Travis Rycroft swatted home a rebound from the crease, making it 4-2. Forwards Brad Herauf and Colt King drew the helpers.

The Steelheads power play connected for the second time in the match at 16:33 of the second stanza. Marty Flichel, who was scoreless in the previous four games, and hadn't found the twine in six contests, netted his eighth goal of the season. Defenseman Jonathan Zion found Flichel in the slot, and Flichel wristed it past Eddy to make it 5-2. Justin Cox was credited with the other assist.

Both teams traded goals in the third period. At 9:12, Tom Reimann ripped a one-timer past Steelheads' goaltender Matt Yeats (35 saves) for his fourth goal of the year. Hearauf and Rycroft set up the goal.

Steelheads' winger Garett Bembridge then pumped home his team-leading 16th of the campaign at 14:21 of the period, making the score 6-3. Bembridge worked his way down the left wing side before cutting out into the crease and stuffing the puck between Eddy's legs.

Utah out-shot the Steelheads 38-32 for the match, as the Steelheads improved to 4-3-0 when being out-shot this season.

Yeats got the win, improving to 8-3-1 on the season. Michaud took the loss, dropping to 9-7-1. The Steelheads hold a 3-0-0 advantage in the season series, with a rematch taking place tomorrow from Qwest Arena at 7:10 p.m.
