Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - After recuperating from off-season ankle surgery, forward Joe Talbot has been pronounced healthy enough to return to the lineup and has agreed to terms with the Alaska Aces for the remainder of the 2005-06 ECHL season.

Talbot returns for his third season with the team, having scored 50 goals in his first two years with the Aces, including a career-high 26 last season, when he helped Alaska reach the National Conference finals. The 25-year-old native of Wahnapitae, Ontario scored seven goals in the playoff run after matching his rookie total of 56 points during the regular season while finishing second on the club with a plus-22 rating. Talbot earned a trip to the 2004 ECHL All-Star Game (where he had a goal and an assist) in his rookie season and scored four goals in Alaska's opening round sweep of San Diego in the Kelly Cup playoffs.

After finishing up at the University of Western Ontario, where he won a CIS title, Talbot joined Atlantic City (since re-located to Stockton, Calif.) on its run to the 2003 Kelly Cup championship. He also appeared in two Memorial Cup Finals during his junior career with the Ottawa 67's, winning in 1999.

For only the second time in his 11-year professional career, the "Voice" of the Aces, Jack Michaels, will miss a scheduled broadcast, as public address announcer Bob Lester will call the play-by-play for tonight's game against the Victoria Salmon Kings on KFQD at 6:00 p.m. ADT. Anchorage Daily News beat reporter Matt Nevala also will be on site to assist with the technical portion of the broadcast and intermission segments. Michaels, who elected to take care of a family issue with the full support of his employer, the Alaska Aces, will return to the booth Wednesday, December 28, when the team returns to Sullivan Arena for the opener of a three-game series against Victoria.

Alaska owns the best record in the ECHL at 17-3-2 heading into a three-game series at Victoria (9-15-1 overall) that begins tonight and continues Saturday and Monday at 6:00 p.m. ADT. All Alaska Aces games, home and away, are broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com.
