Checkers knock off division-leading Florida

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers scored eight goals against the South Division-leading Florida Everblades in front of 6,129 fans Friday night at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena to pick up the 8-6 win. Ryan Fultz scored a hat trick for the Checkers and was named the First Star of the game.

The Second Star of the game went to the Checkers Hugh Jessiman who recorded two assists on the night. Kenton Smith was named the Third Star after scoring his first two goals of the season and notching one assist. The Checkers also received a two-goal, one assist performance from Dusty Jamieson while Peter Worrell scored a goal and had an assist to round out the Checkers scoring.

Jeff Glass picked up his fourth win of the season (31 saves) while Craig Kowalski picked up the loss on a dual-goalie night for the Everblades. Phil Osear (5s, 4ga) started the game in goal for Florida but was replaced by Kowalski (25s, 4ga) at the start of the second period.

The Everblades scoring was led by Kevin Bergin with two goals and one assist. Martin Lojek and Ernie Hartlieb each had a goal and an assist, while John Lehun and Phil Aucoin rounded out the Everblades goal scorers with one apiece.

Charlotte (12-9-1) converted 4-of-5 power play chances while Florida (14-7-0) went just 2-of-6.
