Steelheads' Silverthorn Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Idaho rookie Steve Silverthorn is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Dec. 19-25.

The 24-year-old went 2-0-0 at Phoenix with a shutout and a 1.50 goals-against average and a .946 save percentage to help the Steelheads, who are 18-7-2 with 38 points, remain in third place in the West Division.

Under contract to Iowa of the American Hockey League, the 6-foot-2 and 180-pound Silverthorn began the week in perfect fashion stopping all 34 shots to earn his first professional shutout in a 7-0 win on Dec. 21. Making his second start in as many days at Phoenix on Dec. 22, Silverthorn made 19 saves in a 5-3 win.

He has won four of his last five starts to improve to 10-4-0 with a 2.89 goals-against average and a .898 save percentage.

A native of Owen Sound, Ontario, Silverthorn spent four years at Colgate University where he went 24-10-3 in 2004-05 and was chosen as the National Collegiate Athletic Association's top goalie by The Hockey News. He had a record of 55-30-9 in 100 career games and holds the school record for career shutouts with eight and lowest goals-against average in a season with 1.82 in 2003-04.

Runners Up: Mike McKenna, Las Vegas (1-0-0, 1.00 GAA, .963 save pct.) and Andy Franck, Wheeling (1-0-0, 1.00 GAA, .967 save pct).
