Steelheads' Bembridge Named In Glas Co ECHL Player Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Idaho Steelheads right wing Garett Bembridge is the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for Dec. 19-25 and becomes the first player in 2005-06 to win the award for a second time having earned the honor for Nov. 21-27.

The 6-foot and 190-pound Bembridge scored four goals and had six points in two games on the road against Phoenix helping the Steelheads go 2-0-0. After scoring four points (2g-2a) in a 7-0 win on Dec. 21, the 29-year-old had two goals in a 5-3 win for Idaho which is in third place in the West Division at 18-7-2.

Selected in the fifth round (137th overall) by the New York Rangers in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft and again in the seventh round (207th overall) by the Calgary Flames in the 2001 Entry Draft, Bembridge has scored in six of the last seven Idaho contests, including five multiple-point games and a three-game streak of two-goal games.

Bembridge leads the ECHL with 23 goals and 46 points and is tied for fourth in the league with 23 assists in 27 games. He leads the Steelheads with eight power-play goals and has scored in 20 of 27 games while registering 13 multiple-point games, seven multiple-goal games and five multiple-assist games.

Bembridge scored 56 points (23g-33a) and had 102 penalty minutes in 50 games in Germany in 2004-05. In 2003-04 he split time with Las Vegas, where he scored seven points (4g-3a) in 13 games, and Lowell of the American Hockey League, appearing in 57 games with 14 points (5g-9a). He also played in the AHL with Hartford and Saint John in 2000-03.

Prior to turning professional, the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native played four years for Saskatoon of the Western Hockey League where he led the Blades in scoring with 78 points (38g-40a) in 2000-01 and has a career total of 188 points (89g-99a) in 218 games.

On behalf of Garett Bembridge, a case of pucks will be donated to an Idaho area youth hockey organization by In Glas Co, the exclusive puck supplier for the ECHL.

In Glas Co has donated over 12,500 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities since it began sponsoring the award in 2000-01. In Glas Co also donated all of the limited-edition pucks that were used during the opening weekend and auctioned off for hurricane relief.
