
State Signs PTO and Aquino Heads To Trenton

BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have signed defenseman Jeff State to a professional tryout contract. The Sound Tigers have also announced the reassignment of forward Luch Aquino by the big club to the ECHL's Trenton Titans.
State, 26, joins the Sound Tigers from the ECHL's Reading Royals for whom he posted 47 penalty minutes in nine games this season. The 6'6'' 245-pounder from Buffalo, New York marks his fourth straight season playing in Connecticut by signing with the Sound Tigers. He had two goals, five assists, seven points and 156 penalty minutes in 63 games with the United Hockey League's Danbury Trashers last season and split the previous two years (2002-04) between the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack and the ECHL's Charlotte Checkers. State also played two years (2000-02) at Merrimack College of Hockey East, as well as two seasons in the United States Hockey League with the Dubuque Fighting Saints and the Omaha Lancers.
Aquino, 20, has two assists and six penalty minutes in nine AHL games with the Sound Tigers this season. The 5'9'' 190-pounder from Mississauga, Ontario was selected by the Islanders in the seventh round, 210th overall, of this past summer's NHL Entry Draft. He signed with the big club and attended Islanders training camp before joining the Sound Tigers this fall. Aquino played for the Ontario Hockey League's Brampton Battalion last season and at the University of Maine of Hockey East in 2003-04.
The Sound Tigers will continue a stretch of four games in five days when they visit the Wolf Pack in Hartford tonight at 7 p.m. The Sound Tigers will return to Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard to compete the busy week with a pair of home games against the Springfield Falcons this Saturday at 7:05 p.m. on "80's Night" and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins this Sunday at 4:05 p.m. on "Honey I Took The Kids Day" and "Norwalk Town Day".
