Monarchs Sneak By Bruins

PROVIDENCE, RI -The Manchester Monarchs topped the Providence Bruins, 4-3, in front of a crowd of 7,394 fans at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday night. The Monarchs (9-3-0-1, 19 points) are tied for second place in the Atlantic Division. Providence (4-7-0-0, 8 points) is in sixth place in the Atlantic Division.

Left wing Jeff Tambellini continued his scoring ways as he backhanded in a feed from right wing Brad Smyth at 8:54 of the first period for his eighth goal of the season. Smyth collected a pass behind the net from center Matt Ryan and slid it out in front to Tambellini who backhanded the puck in over Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas.

At 13:05 of the first period, Ryan scored his second of the year. Forward Brendan Bernakevitch passed the puck to Ryan who went streaking down the right side and beat Thomas glove side from the right face-off dot. Defenseman Brad Fast also assisted on the play.

Tambellini tallied his second of the game to give the Monarchs a 3-0 lead at 9:28 of the second period. On the power play, defenseman Denis Grebeshkov shuffled the puck down to Smyth who sent a cross-ice pass over to Tambellini for the one-timer and the score.

Providence answered back with two goals of their own. Right wing David Lundbohm poked in his own rebound for a shorthanded goal at 10:49 of the second period. Left wing Zdenek Blatny skated into the Monarchs zone and fired a shot at goaltender Barry Brust. The rebound came out to Lundbohm, who was positioned on the doorstep of Brust. After several swipes at the puck, Lundbohm chipped it into the back of the net for his second of the season.

Center Tyler Redenbach brought the Bruins to within one goal by scoring his fifth of the season at 1:05 of the third period. Defenseman Jonathan Sigalet and center Eric Healey assisted on the goal to bring the score to 3-2.

Smyth gave the Monarchs their two-goal lead back at 7:04 of the third period. Tambellini sent a shot in on Thomas and the rebound squirted out to Smyth at the bottom of the left face-off circle. Smyth fired in his fourth of the season. Left wing Noah Clarke assisted on the eventual game-winning goal.

Former Monarchs Healey earned his second assist of the night as he sent the puck over to center Ben Guite in the left face-off circle. Guite fired in the power play goal at 11:49 of the final frame. Redenbach also assisted on Guite's third of the season.

Brust (4-1-0) collected 42 saves. Thomas (3-5-0) took his fifth loss of the season stopping 19 shots.

Manchester went 1-for-5 on the power play. Providence was 1-for-7 with the man advantage.

The Monarchs return home on Saturday, November 19 to host the Lowell Lock Monsters at 7:35 p.m. Both teams will face-off again on Sunday, November 20 at the Tsongas Arena at 4:05 p.m.
