Bridgeport Islanders News Release

WADE DUBIELEWICZ Goaltender - Catches: Left Height: 5'10'' Weight: 185 lbs

Born: January 30, 1979 in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan

Signed as a free agent with the Islanders May 25, 2003

Is it true your mom had a big influence on your development as a player when you were a kid?

Yes, she had a major affect since she was the manager of the local rink in my hometown. I had access to ice pretty much 24-7, so I could work on my skills in the net.

What is the story behind you having a contact lense in only one eye?

At Islanders preseason camp, I had my mandatory physical, including an eye exam. When I got to the third row down on the chart, I couldn't see anything out of that one eye. I eventually got the one lense; let me just say it is much easier to catch the puck now.

What are some of the training methods that you use to get ready for the season as a goalie?

I love to play racquetball and tennis, which really helps my lateral movement, quickness and hand-eye coordination. Video games are also a great training method.

Was it disappointing to see Denver University win the NCAA National Championship the year after you left?

Not at all, I was extremely excited for my ex-teammates! I felt a part of the victory since I was with the team for four years. We were a struggling team when I first got there, and to go from that team to a National Championship, I take great pride in that. It also gave me reason to walk around the locker room here bragging about my alma mater.

What was your major at Denver University?

I studied Real Estate Construction Management. It's a very interesting topic that I plan on pursuing as a career once I'm finished playing.
