Cleveland Barons News Release

CLEVELAND, OH -- Three goals by Barons rookie forward Mike Iggulden wasn't enough on Wednesday night as the visiting Houston Aeros topped the Barons 6-4. Patrick O'Sullivan scored twice for the Aeros, who snapped a two-game losing streak.

For the 14th time in the last 17 games the Barons surrendered the opening goal of the game. Houston, taking advantage of a five-on-three power play, received a goal from O'Sullivan at the 4:25 mark to open the game. Erik Westrum would then add his 25th of the year, extending the Aeros lead to 2-0. The Barons answer finally came with 27-seconds to go in the first period. Iggulden swept home a power play rebound goal for his 16th tally of the year on assists from Tom Cavanagh and Tim Conboy.

The Barons scored three goals within 2:19 of the second period to take a 4-2 lead but couldn't hang on before the second period came to a close. Iggulden's second goal of the night occurred at the 6:37 mark on assists from Garrett Stafford and Patrick Rissmiller while the Barons enjoyed a five-on-three power play. Josh Hennessy then scored on the ensuing five-one-four advantage, his 17th of the year, on assists from Cavanagh and Cory Murphy. The Barons then scored their only even strength goal of the game to extend the lead to 4-2 as Iggulden powered home his 18th of the year and third of the game on assists from Patrick Rissmiller and Aaron Power. Houston responded to the Barons barrage by calling a timeout. The break was apparently just what the Aeros needed as they drew two minor penalties and scored on both power plays to tie the game at 4-4. Roman Voloshenko, who also assisted on two goals, stopped the bleeding with his 25th goal of the year to bring the Aeros back to within one. O'Sullivan's second score of the game eventually tied the game with just 2:26 remaining.

The third period didn't produce the fireworks gathered through the first forty minutes, but did see Houston scored the only two goals of the frame for a 6-4 win. Ryan Stokes' second goal of the year, both game-winners, hammered home a rebound while the two teams skated four-on-four. Kirby Law then completed the night with an empty net goal for his 31st of the year.

The Barons nine-game home stand comes to a close tomorrow night against the North Division's top team, Grand Rapids, at 7 O'Clock. Tickets for the game are on sale now at the Q Box Office.
