Milwaukee, WI- It took a two-and-a-half periods, but the Milwaukee Admirals finally broke through to take a 5-2 victory over the San Antonio Rampage at the Bradley Center Wednesday night.
Shea Weber's power-play blast from the high slot on a feed from Darren Haydar turned out to be the game winner in a game that was a stalemate through two periods.
The Admirals carried the play through the first period out-shooting the Rampage 14-6, but were came away empty-handed.
Brandon Segal opened the scoring halfway through the second period when he backhanded a shot past San Antonio goaltender Karl Goehring on a shorthanded breakaway assisted by Greg Classen and Scottie Upshall.
San Antonio answered back less than five minutes later when Pavel Brendl tapped home a loose puck that squirted free on the left side of Milwaukee net-minder Brian Finley on the power-play.
The Admirals finally put the game away in the third period scoring the games next three goals. Classen broke the deadlock with a quick snap shot that beat Goehring to his stick side off a feed from Scottie Upshall at the 6:54 mark of the third period. Weber's strike came less than three minutes later to give the Admirals a lead they would never relinquish.
San Antonio's Steve Gainey gave the Rampage a glimmer of hope when he found the back of the net with 4:05 left to play, but then Classen struck again to ice an Admirals' win when he slid the puck half down the ice into an empty net for a shorthanded goal with 1:16 to play.
