
Falcons Alumni Represented At Olympics

Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today that 10 former Falcons players will be representing their native countries at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.
Former Falcons players participating in the Olympics are as follows:
Shane Doan - Canada Marek Malik - Czech Republic
Olli Jokinen - Finland Sascha Goc - Germany
Jason Muzzatti - Italy Radoslav Suchy - Slovakia
Goran Bezina - Switzerland Mark Streit - Switzerland
Thomas Ziegler - Switzerland Robert Esche - USA
The Olympic Men's Ice Hockey schedule started on Wednesday, February 15. Shane Doan, captain of the NHL's Phoenix Coyotes, played in 39 games with the Falcons during the 1997-98 season collecting 21 goals and 21 assists. One of the most popular goaltenders in Springfield hockey history, Robert Esche, is a member of Team USA and remains a member of the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers. Esche played in 77 career games with the Falcons collecting 34 wins, including four career shutouts. Olli Jokinen started the 1998-99 campaign with Springfield recording three goals and six assists for nine points in nine games and is currently the captain of the NHL's Florida Panthers.
Defenseman Radoslav Suchy played in 112 career games with the Falcons from 1997-2000 picking up 10 goals and 48 assists for 58 points. Blueliner Marek Malik was with the Falcons during their inaugural season and totaled 66 points in 129 career games from 1994-97. Sascha Goc spent a portion of the 2001-02 campaign with Springfield collecting three goals and nine assists for 12 points in 36 games. Switzerland has three former Falcons including Goran Bezina, who remains eighth on the Falcons all-time games played list with 204.
The 2006 Olympic Men's Ice Hockey schedule will conclude with the gold-medal game on Sunday, February 26, with the bronze medal contest taking place a day earlier on Saturday, February 25.
