February 15, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Peoria Rivermen News Release
Peoria, IL (February 15, 2006) - President and CEO Bart Rogers of the Peoria Rivermen, the proud primary affiliate of the St. Louis Blues, announced today that the Rivermen will wear special jerseys during their games on Friday, February 24, and Friday, April 7. Following both games, the specialty jerseys will be auctioned off, and all proceeds from their sale will be donated to the Children's Hospital of Illinois in Peoria.
The first Rivermen specialty jersey night will occur on Friday, February 24. That evening, the Rivermen will host the Cleveland Barons in an American Hockey League (AHL) game at 7:30 p.m. at Carver Arena. During the game, the Peoria squad will wear special American flag-themed jerseys. The famous Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders will also be on hand for that night's festivities.
On Friday, April 7, the Rivermen will again don special jerseys. For this second special jersey event, the Peoria skaters will be outfitted in children-themed jerseys that appear to have been decorated by kids with finger-paint. That evening, the Rivermen will take on the Chicago Wolves in an AHL game at 7:30 p.m. at Carver Arena.
The team will auction off both sets of special Rivermen jerseys to benefit the Children's Hospital of Illinois. Immediately following the Rivermen home games on February 24 and April 7, each of the special jerseys worn that night will be offered for sale to the highest bidder in a live auction from the Carver Arena ice surface. All proceeds from the two auctions will then be donated to the Children's Hospital of Illinois in Peoria.
The Rivermen are a proud new member of the AHL. Founded in 1936, the AHL now serves as the primary development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams and is celebrating its 70th anniversary season in 2005-06.
