
'Dogs drop Marlies 5-3

Hamilton, ON - Bulldogs forward Jean-Francois Jacques recorded a hat trick and added an assist as Hamilton defeated the Toronto Marlies 5-3 on Wednesday night in front of 5,350 at Copps Coliseum.
Jacques opened the scoring at 9:16 of the first period with the âDogs on the power play. He tipped a Danny Syvret wrist shot from the point past Marlies netminder Todd Ford.
Toronto tied the game at 1-1 while on a two-man advantage at 13:51. Bates Battaglia picked up a rebound from the side of the net after Yann Danis made the initial save on a shot from the point. Battaglia passed to an open Brad Leeb who put the puck into the Bulldogs net.
The Marlies took a 2-1 lead at 3:44 of the second period when Brendan Bell's shot from the point was stopped and Ben Ondrus buried the rebound.
Brad Winchester tied the game for the Bulldogs at 10:22 with Hamilton on the power play. Winchester received a pass from Mathieu Roy and fired a shot that beat Ford.
Jacques scored his second of the game at 1:02 of the third period, when he stole the puck along the sideboards, skated towards the net and lifted a backhand over Ford's shoulder.
Brad Winchester scored his second power-play goal of the game at 9:27 when he banged in the rebound of a Mathieu Roy point shot.
Kris Newbury scored his 16th goal of the season for the Marlies at 12:07 with Toronto on the power play to make the game 4-3.
Jacques extended Hamilton's lead and completed the hat trick at 12:59 when he skated down the left side of the ice and wristed a shot past Ford.
Danis made 27 saves 27 to earn the win, while Ford stopped 29 shots.
Hamilton was 3 for 8 on the power play while Toronto went 1 for 6.
