Hershey Bears News Release
2/15/2006 9:27:00 PM - HERSHEY drops a second straight decision to Bridgeport, with a 7-4 final at the Arena at Harbor Yard.
It was a high-scoring first period as the Sound Tigers opened it up at 2:30 with a power-play goal from Rob Collins. Down 1-0, the BEARS would counter with a short-handed goal by Dave Steckel at 4:43 before J.F. Fortin gave the BEARS a 2-1 lead at 7:41. It was the first goal by Fortin since his hat trick on October 9 against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. After the Tigers tied the game at 2-2 on a goal by Wyatt Smith at 9:20, HERSHEY would rally just 24 seconds later with Tomas Fleischmann's 18th goal of the season. Despite being outshot 11-6 after one period, the BEARS took a 3-2 lead to the dressing room.
Bridgeport came out firing in the second period, scoring four unanswered goals to take a commanding lead. Joel Bouchard picked up his fourth goal of the season at 5:57 to tie the game at 3-3 before Smith scored his second of the game for Bridgeport at 8:33. The Sound Tigers would tack on two more before intermission, with Matt Koalska scoring at 11:08 and Robert Nilsson at 16:38.
The Tigers would score early in the third at 1:23 before HERSHEY would finally break the string. Fortin would score his second of the game and fifth of the season at 7:11 of the third to cut the Sound Tigers lead to 7-4.
The BEARS return home to face the Manchester Monarchs this Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. before hosting the Chicago Wolves Sunday at 5:00 p.m. Saturday's game can be heard in both Canada and the United States on XM Radio channel 204 as part of XM's AHL coverage during the NHL's Olympic break.
