Sound Tigers drop Bears 7-4 in Bridgeport

2/15/2006 9:27:00 PM - HERSHEY drops a second straight decision to Bridgeport, with a 7-4 final at the Arena at Harbor Yard.

It was a high-scoring first period as the Sound Tigers opened it up at 2:30 with a power-play goal from Rob Collins. Down 1-0, the BEARS would counter with a short-handed goal by Dave Steckel at 4:43 before J.F. Fortin gave the BEARS a 2-1 lead at 7:41. It was the first goal by Fortin since his hat trick on October 9 against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. After the Tigers tied the game at 2-2 on a goal by Wyatt Smith at 9:20, HERSHEY would rally just 24 seconds later with Tomas Fleischmann's 18th goal of the season. Despite being outshot 11-6 after one period, the BEARS took a 3-2 lead to the dressing room.

Bridgeport came out firing in the second period, scoring four unanswered goals to take a commanding lead. Joel Bouchard picked up his fourth goal of the season at 5:57 to tie the game at 3-3 before Smith scored his second of the game for Bridgeport at 8:33. The Sound Tigers would tack on two more before intermission, with Matt Koalska scoring at 11:08 and Robert Nilsson at 16:38.

The Tigers would score early in the third at 1:23 before HERSHEY would finally break the string. Fortin would score his second of the game and fifth of the season at 7:11 of the third to cut the Sound Tigers lead to 7-4.

The BEARS return home to face the Manchester Monarchs this Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. before hosting the Chicago Wolves Sunday at 5:00 p.m. Saturday's game can be heard in both Canada and the United States on XM Radio channel 204 as part of XM's AHL coverage during the NHL's Olympic break. Saturday's game is also the second of three television broadcasts that WHTM-TV will carry.
