Bridgeport Islanders News Release
The Bridgeport Sound Tigers salvaged a point in an overtime loss to Hartford but dropped all three games they played in the week. The Sound Tigers lost 1-0 to Binghamton at the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport on Friday, battled back to force overtime before falling 3-2 in Hartford on Saturday, and were topped 5-3 by Albany at the Arena on Sunday.
In the standings: The Sound Tigers have a record of 8-7-1-3 and are in fifth place in the East Division, one point behind fourth-place Albany.
Close games: Before Sunday, the Sound Tigers played three consecutive one-goal games - and five of six contests were decided by just a goal. The Sound Tigers have been out-scored 55-54 in their first 19 contests.
Road warriors: In 12 road games, the Sound Tigers have earned 16 of a possible 24 points. They've lost in regulation on the road just three times. The Sound Tigers are 7-3-1-1 away from the Arena at Harbor Yard.
Another comeback in Hartford: The Sound Tigers were down 2-0 in the third period of Saturday's game at Hartford before Blake Comeau and Eric Boguniecki scored to get the game into overtime. Back on Oct. 13, the Sound Tigers trailed 3-1 in the third before coming back for a 6-3 victory on Hartford's home ice.
Between the pipes: Goaltender Billy Thompson stopped 31 Binghamton shots on Friday and Wade Dubielewicz stopped 30 Hartford shots on Saturday. Thompson started Sunday against Albany and made 13 saves on 17 shots before Dubielewicz entered the game and stopped nine of 10.
Three stars: Boguniecki was named the No. 2 star of the game Saturday in Hartford after his third goal of the season forced overtime with just 20 seconds left in regulation.
Killer PK: The Sound Tigers continue to lead the league in penalty killing (91.2 percent) at the start of the week. They've allowed just 11 goals in 125 opponents' power plays.
The week ahead:
The Sound Tigers take on Norfolk for the second time, and first in Bridgeport, on Wednesday (7:30 p.m.), then visit two teams they haven't faced yet this campaign. The Sound Tigers travel to Lowell on Saturday (7:05 p.m.) and visit Manchester on Sunday (4 p.m.).
