Binghamton Senators News Release

LAST WEEK: The Senators (6-12-0-2, 14pts.) were 2-1 last week, posting their second shutout victory of the season on Friday night at Bridgeport.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 23rd vs. HERSHEY (3-5 L):

Hershey jumped out to the early lead as Jonas Johansson collected a power-play marker at 8:42 of the opening period to stake the Bears to a 1-0 advantage. Teammate Matt Koalska added an even strength tally to make it a 2-0 game. The Senators got on the scoreboard midway through the second period as rookie ANDREW EBBETT buried his sixth goal of the season past goalie Frederic Cassivi. DANNY BOIS and MICHAL BARINKA collected helpers on the goal. Two minutes later, JEFF HEEREMA tied the game at 2 apiece with his tenth marker of the season. HEEREMA took the feed from CORY PECKER and slipped a backhand shot from the right post past Cassivi. Just one and a half minutes later, HEEREMA struck again. JOSH HENNESSY fired a one-timer which bounced off of Cassivi's chest into HEEREMA'S possession as the winger buried a wrist shot from the left post to give Binghamton their first lead of the night at 3-2. Alexandre Giroux buried Hershey's second power-play marker at 4:16 of the final period to tie the game at 3 apiece. Louis Robitaille tallied the game-winner at 13:50 of the third, while Chad Wiseman added an insurance marker to make it a 5-3 final. Hershey defenseman Lawrence Nycholat collected four assist on his way to first star honors.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 24th @ BRIDGEPORT (1-0 W):

Goaltender JEFF GLASS stole the show Friday night in Bridgeport, as he turned in his best performance of the year. The 21-year-old stopped all 33 Sound Tiger shots in route to his first victory of the season. JOSH HENNESSY buried a short-handed marker for the only scoring of the night. After winger DANNY BOIS took a tripping penalty at 4:30 of the opening stanza, HENNESSY buried a one-timer past former B-Sens' goalie Billy Thompson to give the Senators a 1-0 lead. The marker was HENNESSY'S eighth of the season, and his second short-hander. GLASS took over in the second period, stopping 14 Sound Tiger shots including three power-play opportunities. The Senators penalty kill had been a source of concern, but the team was a perfect seven for seven on the penalty kill. The win snapped a three-game skid for the B-Sens, as HENNESSY was awarded first star honors for his game-winning short-hander. GLASS took second star honors for his best performance between the pipes this season.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 25th vs. WBS PENGUINS (6-5 W):

Winger DANNY BOIS collected two goals and one assist, while KELLY GUARD had 22 saves after entering the game midway through the first period. The Penguins jumped on the Senators quickly, as Connor James slipped one past goalie JEFF GLASS only fifty-one seconds into the opening period. Exactly three minutes later, the Penguins took advantage of Binghamton's first penalty of the night as Alexei Mikhnov buried a power-play marker past GLASS. The Penguins would tally two more markers, one each by Jean-Francois Jacques and Jonathan Filewich, before Binghamton's offense came to life. With the Senators down 4-0, GUARD entered the game in relief of JEFF GLASS. Binghamton immediately rallied, as center BOBBY ROBINS buried an even-strength marker past Andrew Penner at 12:03 of the first stanza. SERGE PAYER and GRANT POTULNY assisted on the goal. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton wasn't done, as Mikhnov netted his second goal of the night to make it a 5-1 contest at 1:43 of the second period. BOIS sparked the Binghamton offensive explosion, as he beat Penguins defenseman Matt Carkner from the blue line, snapping a wrist shot from the right post past Penner. Two minutes later BOIS and ANDREW EBBETT had a two-on-one break, as EBBETT found BOIS on the right post again. BOIS rifled a one-timer which bounced off of Penner and just over goal line. With time winding down in the second stanza and the Senators on the power play, JOSH HENNESSY found a wide-open CHARLIE COOK in front of the Penguins goal. HENNESSY snapped a pass from behind the cage, as COOK tapped it under Penner's leg to make it a 5-4 contest. Center POTULNY delivered the game-tying goal, as the 26-year-old buried a wrist shot from the right face off circle as he was falling and on one knee. Following a scoreless overtime session, the Senators buried their first three shootout attempts. JEFF HEEREMA, JOSH HENNESSY and RYAN VESCE all buried their shootout markers. KELLY GUARD allowed two shootout markers before stopping the Penguins last three attempts to secure the victory for Binghamton. BOIS (2+1=3) collected first star honors, while KELLY GUARD earned third star honors for his performance between the pipes. Binghamton outshot Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 27-11 over the last two periods. The four-goal advantage that the Senators erased marked the largest comeback in franchise history. JEFF HEEREMA has scored the last three shootout-winning goals for the Senators. Binghamton's three-second period goals marked the first time this season that they've tallied three goals in one period.
