Worcester Sharks News Release
A Quick Look Back
11.22.06 - Worcester 5 - Hartford 4
Dimitri Patzold turned aside 43 shots-on-goal and Mathieu Darche scored twice for the Sharks leading to a 5-4 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack on Wednesday night. The win by Worcester was their eighth of the year and snapped a four game winless stretch.
11.24.06 - Springfield 4 - Worcester 1
The Springfield Falcons defeated the Worcester Sharks 4-1 in front of 3,614 fans at the DCU Center on "Black Friday." Springfield goaltender Karri Ramo recorded 31 saves, including 14 in the final frame, in the win. Sharks netminder Nolan Schaefer made 18 stops, while tom Cavanagh had the only Sharks tally.
11.25.06 - Worcester 5 - Springfield 2
A third period offensive explosion of five goals led to a come-from-behind 5-2 win for the Sharks at Springfield. Dimitri Patzold earned consecutive wins for the first time this season with a 27-save performance and Mathieu Darche tallied his AHL leading 19th goal of the season.
11.26.06 - Hartford 6 - Worcester 5 OT
The Worcester Sharks lost in overtime to the Hartford Wolf Pack by a score of 6-5 on Sunday evening at the DCU Center. The Sharks led on three occasions, but Hartford battled back to force overtime and Jarkko Immonen scored the game-winner 1:43 into the overtime session to take home the victory. Craig Valette paced the Sharks with two goals, while Michal Macho scored his first professional goal.
Games Ahead
12.1.06/12.2.06 - @ Norfolk Admirals - Norfolk Scope
The Sharks hit the road for their first real road trip of the season next weekend. On Friday and Saturday, the Sharks will take on the Eastern Conference leading Norfolk Admirals in Virginia for a back-to-back road series. It will be just the third and fourth time this season that the Sharks will take on a team from the East Division. The game will be a battle to the top of the AHL goal-scoring race as the Admirals Brandon Bochenski (18) is nipping at Mathieu Darche's (19) Shark tail by just one goal after a four-goal game Saturday night against the Philadelphia Phantoms.
12.3.06 - @ Hershey Bears - GIANT Center
Following the two games in Norfolk, the Sharks will head to the Chocolate City to take on the Hershey Bears to wrap-up their three-game road trip. The Sharks will look to dethrone the Calder Cup Champion Hershey Bears in the first meeting of the season between the two teams.
Shark of the Week...
Forward Tom Cavanagh has been averaging a point a game over his last eight. In that span, the Warwick, Rhode Island native has eight points (3+2=5) and 11 points (4+7=11) points on the season. Over the weekend, Cavanagh chipped in with five points (3+2=5) and had an even plus-minus rating while the Sharks went 2-1-1-0 over those four games.
Four or More...
The Worcester Sharks are an impressive 9-2-0-3 when scoring four or more goals in a game this season. Both of Worcester's regulation losses come from Providence and Hartford, respectively at the DCU Center. Both games were 6-5 decisions. The Sharks have 76 goals for on the season and lead all Atlantic Division teams with that number. Worcester is currently fourth in the Eastern Conference in that category.
Rare Feat...
On Sunday evening, Mathieu Darche had the opportunity to reach a milestone that has not been done in at least the last 12 years of the American Hockey League - scoring 20 goals in 20 games. Darche, on his 30th birthday, had the opportunity to reach that rare feat. Unfortunately, he was not able to reach it, but it made a valiant effort with seven shots on goal against Hartford at the DCU Center. Only a handful of players have even come close to such a milestone since the 1995-96 season. Darche has had a magnificent season thus far with 19 goals and nine assists for 28 points. The Montreal native has been held scoreless just four times this season. On three of those occasions, he has responded with multi-point efforts in the following game.
