Bridgeport Islanders News Release
GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (Mar. 30, 2013) - Phantoms forward Kyle Flanagan recorded his first pro goal and goaltender Brian Boucher made 30 saves as Adirondack defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 4-1 at the Glens Falls Civic Center on Saturday night. With the win, the Phantoms improve to 28-34-2-3. The Sound Tigers fall to 27-28-6-5.
Adirondack jumped on the board just 1:37 into the game, when Flanagan scored off of a rebound from Marcel Noebels shot for his first pro goal to give the Phantoms an early 1-0 lead. The Sound Tigers outshot the Phantoms 12-6 in the opening frame, but goaltender Boucher was perfect over the first 20 minutes to hold the Adirondack lead.
The Phantoms took control of the game with three goals in the latter portion of the second period. Matt Konan forced a turnover behind the Sound Tigers net and after Rick DiPietro made an initial save from point blank range, Derek Mathers scored on the rebound for his first pro goal at 13:24 to push the Adirondack lead to two.
Former Sound Tiger Jon Sim extended the Phantoms lead to three goals just 1:14 later, deflecting Flanagan's centering feed past DiPietro after a turnover in the Bridgeport zone. Noebels gave the Phantoms a 4-0 lead with a power play goal at 19:05 of the middle frame, scoring on an open net after DiPietro came behind his net to play the puck, but had it carom out into the slot.
Kenny Reiter relieved DiPietro to open the third period after DiPietro allowed four goals on 19 shots over the first 40 minutes, and the Sound Tigers got on the board early in the final period. Matt Donovan sent a shot from the left point through traffic that Brandon DeFazio deflected past Boucher 2:20 into the third stanza for a power play goal to get Bridgeport on the board.
The Sound Tigers return to action Tuesday when they travel to the DCU Center in Worcester to face the Sharks at 7:00 p.m.
NOTES: Saturday night marked the third time that veteran goaltenders Rick DiPietro and Brian Boucher squared off; DiPietro and the Islanders defeated Boucher's Chicago Blackhawks 5-2 at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Oct. 31, 2006, and won by the same 5-2 margin against Boucher and the Phoenix Coyotes in Glendale on Feb. 13, 2004 ... DeFazio, and Nathan McIver and Joey Diamond registered fighting majors to push Bridgeport's season total to 96, breaking the previous team record of 94 set during the 2007-08 season ... The Sound Tigers have recorded at least one power play goal in three straight games.
