Hamilton, Ontario - The Rochester Americans defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs 4-2 on Saturday night at Copps Coliseum. Evan Rankin scored two goals and the Americans tallied all four of their goals in the third period.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring at 8:46 of the opening frame on Brady Vail's first professional goal. Peter Merth slapped a shot from the right point which was tipped by Vail in the slot and the puck slid off the post and in behind Rochester Americans starting goaltender Nathan Lieuwen. Merth earned his first point as a 'Dog with an assist on the play. Lieuwen left the game due to injury after the first period and was replaced by David Leggio to start the second period.
Hamilton took a 2-0 lead at 19:16 of the second stanza on a tally by Steve Quailer. Jarred Tinordi slapped a shot from the point which was tipped in the slot by Quailer past Leggio and into the back of the net.
The Americans got on the board at 3:38 of the third period as Corey Tropp slid a pass from the right circle to the left circle where Rankin roofed a shot past Hamilton Bulldogs starting goaltender Dustin Tokarski. Rochester tied the score at 5:52 of the third on Rankin's second goal of the period as he picked up his own rebound in the crease and buried the puck by Tokarski. The Amerks then took the lead at 6:53 of the third frame as Jerome Gauthier-Leduc wired a shot from the point which flew through traffic and found its way behind Tokarski.
Matt Ellis added an empty netter to make it a 4-2 final. The Bulldogs outshot the Americans 36-30.
