
Heat Rally to Earn Point in Toronto

Toronto, ON - The Abbotsford Heat earned one point in a 4-3 overtime loss against the Toronto Marlies (AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs) on Saturday afternoon.
Trailing 3-1 with a period to play, the Heat got goals from Sven Baertschi and Ben Street to tie the game and force overtime at Ricoh Coliseum. The Heat now hold a record of 4-1-1-0 through six games with the Marlies, with two contests remaining in Abbotsford.
Akim Aliu opened the scoring at 10:42 of the first period with his fourth goal of the season. Aliu, raised in Toronto, has scored in each of his last two games at Ricoh Coliseum. Defenceman James Martin earned his first point of the season with an assist in his fifth AHL game.
The Marlies struck twice in the final five minutes of the first period to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. Brad Ross redirected a point shot on the power play to make it 1-1, and Jaime Devane scored at even strength to put the Marlies ahead.
Toronto scored the lone goal in the second period and led 3-1 after 40 minutes of play, but the Heat struck twice early in the third period to tie the game at 3-3. Just 72 seconds into the third period Sven Baertschi netted his tenth goal of the season assisted by Roman Horak and Ben Walter. The goal came just four seconds into the Heat's second power play of the night.
At 3:53 of the third period Ben Street tied the game with his 15th goal of the season, batted in on a goalmouth scramble. Street's goal extends his goal-scoring streak to three games. Greg Nemisz and Brett Olson assisted on the play. The game was tied 3-3 after 60 minutes of play.
The Marlies broke the tie just 52 seconds into overtime, ending the Heat's three-game divisional road trip with one point in the overtime loss. Abbotsford finished their three-game road trip having accumulated three points.
Danny Taylor started for the Heat and made 8 saves on 11 shots before Barry Brust replaced him at 6:52 of the second period. Brust finished with seven saves on eight shots. The Heat outshot the Marlies 22-19.
The Heat power play scored once on two opportunities, while the penalty kill surrendered one goal against, on two Marlies man advantages.
