Bridgeport Islanders News Release

NORFOLK, VA - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, earned a split of a two-game-in-two-night weekend visit to Virginia with a 5-2 win over the Norfolk Admirals Saturday. The Sound Tigers finished the weekend sitting in the fourth-and-final playoff spot in the East Division with 72 points, which is two back of third-place Norfolk with the Admirals holding a game in hand.

The Sound Tigers went on a two-minute, two-man advantage just 3:04 into the game and took the first lead of the evening on the front end of the power play when Jeff Hamilton scored his 22nd goal of the season off assists from Rob Collins and Jeremy Colliton to make it 1-0 at the 4:32 mark. Hamilton has now scored goals in three straight games.

Norfolk answered on the front end of its own five-on-three power play when Nathan Barrett chipped home of his 26th goal of the year at 6:46 off assists from Martin St. Pierre and Jason Morgan to tie things at 1-1.

The Sound Tigers regained the lead at 2-1 on David Masse's 13th goal of the season as he jammed home the rebound of a Matt Koalska shot with Masi Marjamaki also collecting an assist at 10:24. Just nine seconds later, the Sound Tigers went on another power play, and they increased their lead to 3-1 just 37 seconds into that advantage when Jeremy Colliton whipped home his second goal in as many games, his 17th on the season, off assists from Collins and Hamilton. Colliton, Collins and Hamilton are all now on four-game point streaks.

After 40 penalty minutes, nine power plays and four goals in the first 20 minutes of play, the teams settled into a quieter mode in the middle frame, but the Sound Tigers were able to pad their lead to 4-1 when Collins took a two-zone outlet pass from Bruno Gervais and blasted home his 19th goal of the season, his third point of the game, at 10:59 of the middle frame. The Admirals pulled starting netminder Adam Munro in favor of Corey Crawford at that point.

Colliton launched a slapshot past Crawford for a shorthanded goal, his second tally of the evening and 18th overall on the season, off assists from Steve Regier and Gervais six seconds past the mid-point of the third period to make it 5-1 Sound Tigers.

Colin Fraser pulled the Norfolk to within 5-2 with his tenth marker of the year with 5:18 left to play off assists from Brandon Rogers and Matt Keith, but that is as close as the Admirals would get.

Colliton was the first star of the game, Collins the second and Sound Tigers goaltender Wade Dubielewicz the third with 30 saves as Norfolk had a 32-28 shots on goal advantage. Crawford stopped nine of ten shots in 29:01 of relief work while Munro denied 14 of 18 for the Admirals. The Sound Tigers were 2 for 8 on the power play and 6 for 7 on the penalty kill

The Sound Tigers will continue a stretch of seven straight road games when they visit the Providence Bruins and Portland Pirates next Friday and Saturday, March 17th and 18th. Both of next weekend's games will begin at 7:05 p.m. All Sound Tigers games are web-cast live at www.soundtigers.com.
