Forbes, Kane lead Bears to 4-1 win at Portland

HERSHEY earns seven of eight points in the four-game season series as the BEARS defeat the Pirates 4-1 at the Cumberland County Civic Center Saturday night.

Joey Tenute opened the scoring for HERSHEY with a rebound goal just 2:30 into the game. Jakub Klepis was credited with the primary assist, with Tomas Fleischmann picking up a playmaker as well. The BEARS fired eight shots in the period, while Portland countered with seven as HERSHEY took a 1-0 lead to the dressing room after one.

In the second period, all the scoring would come late as Boyd Kane scored his 19th of the season at 17:13 to lift HERSHEY to a 2-0 advantage. Portland would strike back quickly with a power play goal by Dustin Penner at 18:30, but the BEARS would fire back before intermission. Colin Forbes picked up a rebound left by Portland goaltender Jani Hurme and scored his 19th of the season at 19:17 of the second. HERSHEY would outshoot Portland 11-6 in the middle stanza and take a 3-1 lead into the third period.

HERSHEY would score the only goal of the third period when Dave Steckel picked up his 13th goal of the season and his second in as many nights in Portland. Frederic Cassivi earned his 30th win of the season with the victory.

The BEARS will finish a stretch of four games in five days on the road Sunday at Providence. Face-off at Dunkin Donuts Center is at 4:05 p.m.
