Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - Goaltender Andy Chiodo blanked the Manchester Monarchs for his first shutout of the season in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 2-0 victory at the Verizon Wireless Arena in front of the seventh sellout crowd of the season, 9,916 fans, on Saturday night.
Manchester (36-22-2-4, 78 points) is in third place in the Atlantic Division. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (42-16-3-3, 90 points) is in first place in the East Division.
After a scoreless first period, right wing Jonathan Filewich put the Penguins on the board at 3:07 of the middle frame. Filewich collected the puck from left wing Guillaume Lefebvre, skated to the hash marks between the face-off circles and blasted a shot at Monarchs goaltender Barry Brust. The rebound popped right back onto the stick of Filewich who fired a second shot that beat Brust. Center Kurtis McLean also earned an assist on the Penguins goal.
With Brust pulled for the extra attacker, center Krystofer Kolanos scored into the empty net at 19:25 of the third period. Center Shane Endicott assisted on the empty netter.
Brush (17-10-1) took the loss with 27 saves. Chiodo (5-4-0) earned the win stopping all 27 shots he faced.
Manchester went 0-for-5 on the power play. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
The Monarchs continue their five game homestand with game three against the rookie Iowa Stars on Wednesday, March 15 for a 7:05 p.m. face-off.
