Orlando Solar Bears News Release
Reading, PA - A 5-on-3 goal late in the second period helped the Reading Royals take down the Solar Bears in a back-and-forth contest by the final 5-3 score at the Sovereign Center on Saturday night.
Halfway through the first period, F C.J. Severyn struck for the first goal of the game. A shot from the point from D Sean Lorenz was stopped by G Philipp Grubauer, but Severyn gathered up the rebound and slid it home ay 9:02. Reading then struck for two goals in 1:07, as F Stanislav Galiev tallied once on the power play again at even strength to give Reading a 2-1 lead with 6:45 left in the period. Orlando was able to even it up before the opening frame came to a close, as a pass from RW Dan Gendur deflected off a Royals defenseman and into the back of the net at 14:15. The two sides went into the first intermission tied at 2-2.
Reading regained their lead midway through the second stanza. F Yannick Tifu got a breakaway pass through neutral ice and made two quick moves to slide the puck past Orlando G John Curry at 9:10 of the period. The Solar Bears answered 17 seconds later, as C Ryan Cruthers dished a pass to Severyn and he blasted a shot into the top corner of the net to lock the score at 3-3. Once again the Royals would answer, as Galiev completed the hat trick when he netted a shot from the low slot with the Royals on a 5-on-3 advantage at 14:27 for the final goal of the frame.
Late in the third period, Reading continued to hold their 4-3 advantage. With the Solar Bears goaltender pulled for the extra attacker, Reading F Ian O'Conner picked up a loose puck in the attacking zone and hit the empty net to secure a 5-3 win for Reading.
