Defenseman Brett Flemming Reassigned to Reading

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, today announced that defenseman Brett Flemming has been reassigned by the Capitals from the Bears to the Royals. In separate transactions, the Capitals also: (i) reassigned forward Danick Paquette from Hershey to Reading; (ii) recalled goaltender Brandon Anderson and reassigned him to the Bears; and (iii) reassigned goaltender Sergey Kostenko from the Bears to the Royals. In other transactions undertaken today, the Royals: (i) activated defenseman Edwin Shea from the team's Reserve List and released him from his ECHL contract; and (ii) placed forward Brandon Blandina on the team's Reserve List. In a transaction previously completed, the Royals placed defenseman Scott Wietecha on the 21-Day Injured Reserve List.

During this most recent stint with Hershey, Flemming, a second year pro who was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, played to a plus-1 (+1) in the Bears' 4-0 win over the St. John's IceCaps on Wednesday. Flemming, who had been recalled from Reading last Monday, has scored one goal, assisted on eight others, and registered forty-eight penalty minutes in twenty-four games with the Royals this season.

Paquette, (6'0/214) (22), a third year pro from Montreal, Quebec, has yet to appear in a game this season. Last year, Paquette split the season between three teams in the ECHL. He began the season with the South Carolina Stingrays, registering seventeen points (6g-11a) and what proved to be a team-leading 118 penalty minutes in just 31 games with the Stingrays. In mid-January, he was reassigned to the Utah Grizzlies, where he recorded sixty-four penalty minutes in nine games. At the trade deadline in early March, Paquette was then recalled and reassigned to the Chicago Express, where he finished the season by racking up eleven points (7g-4a) and twenty-seven penalty minutes in thirteen games for Chicago. Paquette's 209 total penalty minutes last season was the fourth most in the league. In his first year of pro, Paquette led the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL with 179 penalty minutes in fifty-nine games. Prior to turning pro, Paquette, who was a member of the 2006-07 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League President's Cup Champion Lewiston MAINE-iacs, played 251 total games in the QMJHL, recording 175 points (94g-81a) and 691 penalty minutes.

Anderson, a first year pro from Langley, British Columbia, appeared in seven games with the Royals, compiling a 4-3-0-0 record, with a 3.57 goals against average, and a .870 save percentage with one shutout. Kostenko, a first year pro from Novokuznetsk, Russia, attended training camp with the Royals but was recalled and reassigned to Hershey on October 10. He has yet to appear in a North American pro game.

Shea, a first year pro from Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, was signed by the Royals on Wednesday. He did not appear in any games for Reading. Wietecha has five points (3g-2a) and twelve penalty minutes in sixteen games for the Royals. He has not played the team's 7-2 win in Evansville on November 18.

The Royals are back in action tonight at the Sovereign Center when the Orlando Solar Bears make their first trip ever to Reading. It's Teddy Bear Toss night and fans are encouraged to bring stuffed animals to the game, which can be tossed on the ice after the Royals score their first goal of the game. The stuffed animals will be collected by the US. Marines and distributed to kids in need courtesy of Toys for Tots. The first 1500 fans eighteen years of age or older at tomorrow night's game will receive a holiday ornament.
