Artem Demkov, who has given the Titans fits all year, opened the scoring for Elmira, beating Scott Wedgewood (7-7-2-0, 29 saves) less than two minutes into the contest.
Minutes later Marcel Noebels tied the game for the home team, blasting a shot from the point that deflected straight up in the air and slithered through Maxime Clermont (3-4-1-1, 29 saves) before the Elmira goaltender could locate the loose disk. The power play tally was Noebels'seventh of the season, with assists going to Stephen Schultz and Tyler Hostetter.
Andrew Rowe reclaimed the lead for the visitors late in the first, putting back a rebound on the power play to give the Jackals a 2-1 lead headed into the first intermission.
The middle frame was all Trenton. The scoring got underway during a 4-on-4, when Stephen Schultz took advantage of a puck handling mistake by Clermont, forced the turnover and found Ryan Hayes, who buried his second goal of the year into the empty net to tie the game at two.
The Titans continued to press after the goal, and with Rob Bellamy out after a five-minute major and game-misconduct for spearing, the Titans power play connected again, this time with Captain Andy Bombach redirecting a shot from the point low past Clermont to give the home team their first lead of of the game. Bombach continues to lead the team in goals (11) and points (21) for the season.
The battle continued in the third, with the teams trading chances and hits through the first ten minutes. Stephen Schultz gave the Titans some breathing room with ten minutes left in the contest, spinning around in the slot and beating Clermont on the near side to make it 4-2 Titans.
The Jackals just wouldn't go away, however. They were given new life by Jack Downing, who grabbed a rebound in the slot and beat Wedgewood, who was unable to recover from the initial save, to pull the Jackals within one with eight minutes remaining.
Elmira continued to swarm after the goal, keeping the Titans on their heels for the final seven minutes of regulation. Andrew Rowe eventually broke through and tied the game with less than four minutes to play.
The Titans got a late power play, but were unable to cash in, finishing 2-for-6 on the man advantage. They were able to limit the Jackals power play, which is second best in the league, to just 1-for-3, and only took four penalties in the contest.
The two sides traded chances in overtime before Artem Demkov crashed the net and managed to put the puck past Wedgewood to complete the comeback.
The Titans will look for a quick turnaround as they meet with Orlando tomorrow at the Sun National Bank Center. Puck drop for Trenton's first ever meeting with the Solar Bears is set for 3:05 pm. As always, all Titans games can be heard on the home of the Titans, 107.7 FM The Bronc, or online at 1077thebronc.com with "The Bronc" Daryle Dobos, the voice of the Titans.
