March 10, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Grrrowl News Release
Greenville Grrrowl General Manager Ryan Stewart announced today that JOHN SNOWDEN and RORY McMAHON have signed professional tryout agreements with the AHL's Norfolk Admirals. Snowden leaves the Grrrowl as the team's leader in points, while McMahon leads all Grrrowl rookies in goals. In a separate transaction, Grrrowl forward ADAM NIGHTINGALE was removed from the Injured Reserve list today.
This is the first call-up of the season for the 24-year-old Snowden, who spent training camp with the Admirals. The Snohomish, Washington native played one game in the AHL last year, suiting up for the Utah Grizzlies soon after being named the ECHL's Player of the Month in April.
The 6-0, 209-pound right wing is currently leading the ECHL in game-winning goals with seven. He ranks first on the Grrrowl in points (55), plus/minus (+21), and shots (218), ranks second in goals (25) and is tied for third in assists (30). He has four three-point games this season.
Greenville acquired Snowden last off-season in a three-team trade involving Texas and Alaska. He played his first two professional seasons in Texas, where he led the Wildcatters in goals each year. Last season, Snowden finished with 37 goals and 25 assists for 62 points. He led Texas in goals, points, power play goals, power play points, and game-winning goals. Snowden finished with 303 shots, the highest in the ECHL. Prior to turning pro, Snowden spent three seasons with the Lincoln Stars of the USHL, averaging over a point per game.
This is McMahon's first call up, as the rookie also spent training camp with the Admirals before the 2005-06 season. The 5-11, 186-pounder leads all Grrrowl rookies in goals with 21 and is second overall in game-winning goals with four. McMahon also has 20 assists this season, a +19 rating, 12 power play points, and is 3-for-6 in shootouts.
A native of Perdue, Saskatchewan, McMahon played four seasons at the University of North Dakota before turning pro. The 23-year-old accumulated 36 goals and 47 assists for 83 points in 158 games at North Dakota. McMahon set career highs in goals (14), assists (17), points (31) PIMs (55), and games (42) as a senior, while earning a spot on the All-WCHA Academic Team and a degree in Physical Education.
Greenville returns to the BI-LO Center this weekend after two weeks on the road. For tickets, call 864-233-2525.
