Nailers Down Bombers 3-2

Wheeling Nailers News Release


FAIRBORN, OH - The Wheeling Nailers entered Friday's night contest with the Dayton Bombers with a roster that resembled a hockey team for the first time in 2006. Trevor Byrne a defensemen loaned from Peoria and Daniel Fernholm another defensemen , was reassigned from Wilkes-Barre / Scranton earlier this week giving the Nailers six defensemen and allowing Curtiss Patrick to move back to his forward position.

In the first period Sean Collins got the Nailers rolling with his 19th and 20th goals of the year. The first goal at 1:12 was assisted by the newest Nailer Trevor Byrne and Brendon Hodge . The second goal was assisted by Terry Virtue and Jordan Cameron to make it 2-0 Nailers .

In the second period Curtiss Patrick extracted a little revenge with his second goal of the year giving the Nailers 3-0 lead. Mike Doyle and Trevor Byrne assisted on the goal at 7:57. Jeff Szwez ended the shutout for Andy Franck off a pass from Scott Cameron making it 3-1.

In the third period the Bombers pulled their goaltender with two minutes to play and beat Andy Franck who had fell down to make it 3-2. Andy regrouped and shut down the Bombers for the final minute and earned his 23rd win of the year.

The Nailers will travel to Johnstown tomorrow night to face the Chiefs. Face off is set for 7:00pm. Catch all the action on the Nailers radio network, on the B2 network , or on wheelingnailers.com.
