Phoenix RoadRunners News Release
Phoenix, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL have acquired forward Kevin Ulanski, defenseman Nathan Horne, and future considerations from the Long Beach Ice Dogs in exchange for forward Ben Knopp and defenseman Dave Cousineau, and forward Patrick Levesque and future considerations from the San Diego Gulls in exchange for forward Jean-Francois Soucy and defenseman Shaun Fisher.
"With the playoffs out of our reach, I've decided that it's time to start building for next season," said RoadRunners General Manager and Head Coach Ron Filion. "I want to thank Ben, Dave, J-F, and Shaun for all their contributions this year and wish them nothing but the best for the remainder of the season. In the meantime, we're getting back a couple of good young players in both of these trades and some future considerations that will make us a very good hockey club next year."
Ulanski, 23, tallied six goals and 18 points in 51 games with Long Beach. The Madison, Wis. native is in his rookie season following a very prolific four-year collegiate career at Denver University. Ulanski recorded a career-best 11 goals and 33 points in 2004-05 to lead the Pioneers to their second consecutive NCAA Division I National Championship. He finished with a class-leading 112 points on 33 goals and 79 assists in 151 games.
Horne, 26, had one assist in 25 games with Long Beach. The fifth-year professional from Apple Valley, Calif. joins his seventh pro team. Horne has recorded three goals, 20 points, and 265 penalty minutes in 216 career games.
Levesque, 21, notched five goals and 15 points in 35 games with San Diego after starting the season with the Bakersfield Condors. The third-year professional from Trois-Rivieres, Quebec began his pro career in 2003-04 with the Corpus Christ Rayz of the Central Hockey League and collected six goals and 27 points in 62 games. He also played three seasons of junior hockey with Sherbrooke and Drummondville of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In his brief pro career, Levesque has 16 goals and 54 points in 113 games.
In a separate transaction, the RoadRunners have also signed rookie defenseman Jon Fieweger. Fieweger signed with the RoadRunners out of training camp earlier this season and appeared in five games before he was released. The West Linn, Ore. native also skated in one game with the Pensacola Ice Pilots.
The RoadRunners travel to Bakersfield at 8PM MST tonight to battle the Condors from Rabobank Arena. Catch all the action live on News-Talk Radio 1100AM KFNX and Pro Sports Radio online at www.phxroadrunners.com beginning with "RoadRunners Countdown" at 7:40PM.
Phoenix returns to US Airways Center at 7:11PM on Tuesday, March 14 as they open a two-game series with the Las Vegas Wranglers. The RoadRunners are teaming up with Radio Disney AM 1580 for a Junior St. Paddy's Day Celebration.
