March 10, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings and Las Vegas Wranglers were under two minutes away from battling in the Overtime period for the second time in two and a half weeks, but the second-ranked Wranglers snuck away with the 3-2 win.
It was 6:09 into the first period when Las Vegas posted their first goal. Winger Darren Lynch beat Netminder Rob McVicar for his seventh goal of the season. Shots were tied at nine a piece at the first intermission.
Almost twenty minutes of play later, at 6:06 into the second period, Dan Tudin posted his 27th goal of the season with a snapshot from the right slot and gave the Wranglers a 2-0 lead.
The Salmon Kings faced a two goal deficit nearing the end of the second, but Steve Lingren scored his 15th power play goal to bring the Salmon Kings within one with 3:27 remaining. It was also his 22nd goal of the season. Shots were once again tied at the end of the period; each team tallied 21 shots at intermission.
Victoria kept fighting in the third and tied the game 2-2 with 3:55 left in regulation. Defenseman Nate Forster found Lanny Gare alone in the slot, and he snapped it past Goaltender Mike McKenna. Gare became the team's leading scorer with his 47th point of the season.
Two minutes later, the Wranglers sealed the victory as Matt Dzieduszycki earned his second assist of the night, finding Steve Crampton streaking to the net, who flipped the puck past McVicar for the winning goal. The Wranglers snagged their 43rd win of the season.
Victoria was 1-6 on the power play and thwarted Las Vegas on all seven of their attempts with the man advantage. Mike McKenna earned his 13th win of the season and McVicar suffered his tenth loss. Las Vegas out shot Victoria 28-27.
The final match up of the season between Victoria and Las Vegas hits the ice at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
