Sky Sox Outlast Isotopes for 7-2 Win

July 29, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Isotopes (50-57) were unable to overcome a five-run first inning by the Sky Sox (57-47) and a two-hour and 20-minute rain delay as Colorado Springs defeated Albuquerque 7-2 on Sunday afternoon at Security Service Field.

Albuquerque starter Jeff Hoffman pitched 1.0 inning before the rain cut his outing short. The Sky Sox recorded two hits against the right-hander in that frame, but one was a grand slam by Andres Blanco. The loss was Hoffman's sixth of the season and his second in as many starts.

Lefty Brett Oberholtzer came in to pitch for the Isotopes after the rain delay and limited Colorado Springs to one run in 6.0 innings.

The Isotopes' offense compiled two runs and six hits for the afternoon, highlighted by Mike Tauchman's solo home run in the fourth inning. The round-tripper was Tauchman's 17th of the season, establishing a career-high for the 27-year-old.

The Isotopes will play their final regular season game against the Sky Sox on Monday evening as Colorado Springs will become a Short-Season team in 2019. Right-hander David Holman will take the mound as he goes for his third straight quality start for Albuquerque. First pitch for the series finale at Colorado Springs is scheduled for 6:40 p.m.?
