SACRAMENTO, CA - Luke Farrell, Alberto Baldonado and Dakota Mekkes combined for the shutout as the Iowa Cubs (39-66) earned a 2-0 victory over the Sacramento River Cats (43-63), Saturday at Raley Field. It was Iowa's third shutout of the season with all three coming in the last 13 games.

After a scoreless three innings, Jason Vosler and Taylor Davis drew back-to-back walks with two down in the fourth to spark a rally. Trey Martin poked a single to load the bags, before Bijan Rademacher collected the third walk of the frame to force in the game's first run.

Iowa wrapped up the night's scoring in the sixth with the drive, once again, started by Vosler and Davis. The pair knocked consecutive singles to put runners on the corners and Martin came through with an RBI single to put the I-Cubs up 2-0. Martin finished the game with a team-leading three hits.

After loading the bases in the first inning, Farrell settled in to twirl 4.1 scoreless innings for the I-Cubs. He gave up three hits, walked three and fanned four. Baldonado (6-1) contributed 2.2 shutout frames to earn the win as Mekkes took his third save of the season after 2.0 perfect innings of work. Mekkes also recorded his first professional at-bat, striking out in the ninth.

Iowa and Sacramento meet for an afternoon game at 3:05 CT tomorrow at Raley Field. Follow the action on AM 940 or www.iowacubs.com.
