Redbirds Falter Late in 9-5 Loss at Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nevada - The first-place Memphis Redbirds (67-39) rallied from a 5-1 deficit to tie the game at 5, but the Las Vegas 51s (Mets) scored four runs in their final two at-bats to capture a 9-5 win in game two of the series Saturday night in Las Vegas, Nev.

The Redbirds fell behind 5-1 after two innings, but Memphis plated two runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth to knot the ballgame at 5. But Las Vegas pushed a run across in the bottom of the seventh and three more in the home-half of the eighth to power the victory.

Carson Kelly was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and two RBI, and Wilfredo Tovar drove in Memphis' other three runs. Oscar Mercado stole two bases in the game, giving him 31 on the year, and he is now tied with Tyler Greene (2009) for third-most in a single season in Redbirds history.

Austin Warner made his Triple-A debut on the mound and gave up five runs, two earned, on seven hits in 4.0 innings. Hector Mendoza threw a scoreless fifth, before Elniery Garcia allowed four runs in 2.0 innings in his Triple-A inauguration.

Kelly drove in Memphis' first run of the game in the second, and he plated another run in the sixth. Tovar contributed the game-tying run after that, when he singled home Kelly to tie the contest at five runs apiece. Tovar also had a two-run double in the fourth that scored Kelly and Edmundo Sosa.

Five 51s each had two of the club's 13 hits in the game.
