Iowa Cubs News Release

SACRAMENTO, CA - The Sacramento River Cats (44-63) took the first lead and held on to defeat the Iowa Cubs (39-67) 7-4, Sunday at Raley Field.

Sacramento jumped to a 6-0 lead after two, doing most of the damage against Casey Coleman in the second with a five-run inning. Myles Schroder led off with a homer and also tabbed the final out of the frame as 10 River Cats batted.

Coleman (2-30) handed the ball to Kyle Ryan with two outs in the second. Ryan held off the River Cats until the fifth when Schroder came through again with his second homer of the game. Ryan exited after allowing one run through 4.1 innings.

Iowa was shut out through five, but made the game interesting in the sixth. Trey Martin opened the frame with a single and on a 1-1 count, Stephen Bruno took former I-Cub Casey Kelly yard for his third homer of the season. Mark Zagunis followed with a single and Ryan Court hit Iowa's second long ball of the frame to push the score to the eventual 7-4 final. Despite the four-run inning, Kelly (10-8) captured the win after 6.0 innings of work.

Craig Brooks and James Norwood each pitched near-perfect innings in relief, with a walk issued by Norwood standing as the only scratch in the late innings. Former I-Cub Pierce Johnson closed out the game for Sacramento to earn his third save of the season.

Bruno ended the game 3-for-4 with two RBI. Will Remillard contributed a 2-for-4 game, collecting his first Triple-A hit with a double in the fifth.

Iowa and Sacramento play the series finale at 2:05 p.m. CT tomorrow at Raley Field. Follow the action on AM 940 or www.iowacubs.com.
