
Six Home Runs Boost Indians over I-Cubs, 12-8

DES MOINES, IOWA - Anthony Alford went 4-for-5, blasted two home runs and recorded five RBI to boost the Indianapolis Indians over the Iowa Cubs on Friday night, 12-8.
Alford started the game off with a home run over the center field wall in the top of the first inning to put the Indians (39-42) on the board, 1-0. Two innings later in the top of the third, Alford launched his second home run of the night, this time a two-run homer, over the left field fence to extend the lead to 3-0.
With one out and no one on in the fourth inning, Hunter Owen hit a home run to left field.
In the top of the fifth inning, Alford singled to left-center followed by a two-run home run from Christian Bethancourt. Then Cole Tucker walked to set up another two-run home run, this time off the bat of Michael Chavis. After loading the bases, major league rehabber Erik Gonzalez walked to score Jared Oliva. With the bases still full, Alford singled through the right side to score two more and give the Indians a 11-0 lead.
The I-Cubs (35-45) got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning with an RBI double from Nick Martini and a home run from Trayce Thompson to make a dent in the Indians' lead, 11-3.
Iowa continued to chip away at Indy's lead in the eighth frame after Thompson hit a two-run home run over the left field fence. With two outs and the bases loaded, relief pitcher Hunter Stratton forced the ground out to end the inning.
Indy tacked on one more insurance run in the top of the ninth when Owen hit his second home run of the night to center field.
The I-Cubs scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to end the game at 12-8.
James Marvel (W, 4-3) earned the win for the Indians only giving up three runs in five innings of work. Mike Hauschild (L, 0-5) took the loss giving up four runs on seven hits.
Indianapolis and Iowa continue the series on Saturday night at 8:08 PM ET. LHP Dillon Peters (0-0, 1.50) will face off against RHP Adrian Sampson (4-4, 4.73).
