Redbirds Lose on Rainy Night in Durham

Memphis Redbirds News Release

DURHAM, North Carolina - The Memphis Redbirds lost 16-3 to the Durham Bulls (Triple-A affiliate, Tampa Bay Rays) on a gloomy night for baseball in North Carolina. The game was delayed by nearly two and a half hours due to rain, with a steady rain persisting throughout much of the game.

When the game finally got going, Durham (53-28) pounced early. The Bulls scored once in the first inning and four times in the third inning to take a healthy lead that they would never relinquish. Home run power highlighted the home team's early offensive output. Josh Lowe smacked a three-run shot in the third, with a solo shot from Dalton Kelly following later in the frame. Lowe and Kelly have combined for 33 home runs this season.

Given all the early run support, Tobias Myers flourished early. The starting pitcher for the Bulls cruised through the first five innings, allowing just one hit in five scoreless frames.

His final inning of work was the sixth, when Memphis (40-42) finally got to him. Four hits produced three runs, highlighted by a two-run double from Nolan Gorman. The 21-year-old is 6-16 in the series with a double, two home runs and six runs driven in.

Durham put the game away with 11 runs in the bottom of the sixth. Tristan Gray's three-run triple was the standout play in the late-inning barrage for the Bulls.

The Memphis Redbirds are the proud Triple-A Affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. Memphis has claimed four League Championships and one Triple-A National Championship since their affiliation with St. Louis began in 1998.
