ST. PAUL, Minn. - Michael Mariot pitched 7.0 scoreless innings but a Sherman Johnson home run was enough for the St. Paul Saints (43-38) to outlast the Louisville Bats (31-50) 1-0 on Friday night at CHS Field.

The Bats and Saints each registered four hits through the first six innings, but neither offense could capitalize on their baserunners as both starters exited after authoring scoreless appearances.

Mariot finished with no walks and five scattered hits over 7.0 innings. He has now recorded a quality start in four of his last six starts.

The scoreless stalemate would continue until Johnson connected on a solo homer run in the eighth to put the Saints in front, 1-0.

Reds' rehabber Alex Blandido began a threat in the ninth, leading off the inning with a walk before TJ Friedl drove a base hit to left field to place a pair of runners on the basepath with one down. Alfredo Rodriguez connected on a sharply hit ground ball in the next at-bat to advance the runners into scoring position; however, with the tying run 90 feet away St. Paul reliever Nick Vincent induced the final out to preserve the shutout win.

The two teams will square off Saturday night with first pitch set for 8:05 p.m. at CHS Field. RHP Bo Takahashi (2-6, 5.25) is scheduled to take the mound for Louisville, while St. Paul will hand the ball to RHP Ian Hamilton (2-1, 2.61).
