Chasers Fall in Extras Despite Trio of Homers

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Despite three total home runs and an eighth-inning comeback, the Omaha Storm Chasers lost, 5-4, in 10 innings to the Columbus Clippers on Friday at Huntington Park.

With the game tied, 4-4, in the bottom of the 10th inning, Gabriel Arias hit a high chopper to the left side against right-hander Tyler Zuber (Loss, 1-2) that allowed Alex Call to score the winning run.

Omaha (46-36) took the lead in the top of the eighth inning with two home runs. Two batters after catcher Nick Dini hit a solo shot to left-center, third baseman Bobby Witt Jr. blasted a go-ahead, two-run homer to left to put the Chasers in front, 4-3. It was Dini's second consecutive game with a homer run and Witt Jr.'s third home run of the series.

Columbus (36-44) tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning against right-hander Dylan Coleman. With a runner on second base and two outs, Nolan Jones punched a single through the right side that brought in Andrés Gimenez as the tying run, helping send the game to extra innings after both teams went scoreless in the ninth. Right-hander Jordan Stephens (Win, 1-0) held Omaha scoreless in the 10th.

It was Omaha's third walk-off loss this season.

The Chasers took an early lead against left-hander Kirk McCarty when first baseman Nick Pratto launched a solo home run off the scoreboard in right-center in the top of the first inning. It was Pratto's sixth home run in Triple-A.

The Clippers responded against left-hander Jake Kalish in the bottom of the first when Jones hit a two-run homer to put Columbus in front. The Clippers added a run in the second on a leadoff double, infield single, and sacrifice fly.

Following the infield single in the second inning, Kalish retired 14 consecutive batters between the second and sixth innings, ultimately retiring 14 of the final 15 batters he faced in a season-best 5.2 innings. Kalish struck out six and did not issue a walk, allowing three runs on five hits.

The Storm Chasers continue their six-game series against the Columbus Clippers (CLE) on Saturday at Huntington Park in Columbus, Ohio, when right-hander Brandon Barker (0-1, 6.87) faces Columbus left-hander Scott Moss (1-4, 5.79). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CT and coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. CT with the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show on 1180 The Zone.

After a two-week road trip with series against Toledo and Columbus, the Storm Chasers return to Werner Park for a two-week homestand from August 10-22 featuring six games against the Iowa Cubs and six game against the Columbus Clippers.
