
Six Bucks Named to NWL Big League Dreams Showcase Roster

Rochester, MN - The Northwoods League has announced the rosters for the 2013 Big League Dreams Showcase which includes six members of the Waterloo Bucks. The event, which will be hosted by the Madison Mallards at Warner Park on Monday, July 19, will consist of a double-header featuring the top players from the NWL. Adam Dian, Blake Hickman, Drasen Johnson, J.D. Moore, Kyle Pollock, and Chesny Young have all been chosen to participate in one game of the double-header.
All-Star pitcher Adam Dian (pronounced DEE-on), a sophomore from Temple University and originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, leads Waterloo in saves with six. The righty has appeared in 18 games and owns a 2-0 record with a 0.43 ERA. Dian has struck out 40 hitters and his holding opponents to a .127 average.
University of Iowa product Blake Hickman has been invited to participate as a pitcher. Listed as a utility player in Waterloo's roster, Hickman has had four appearances on the mound for the Bucks with four innings under his belt. The Chicago, Illinois native owns a 4.50 ERA with four strikeouts.
Right-handed pitcher Drasen Johnson, sophomore from the University of Illinois and originally from Chillicothe, Illinois, owns a 3-0 record in 13 appearances for Waterloo this summer. He owns a 2.73 ERA in 29.2 innings pitched. Johnson has struck out 20 batters while holding opponents to a .226 average.
J.D. Moore of South Dakota State University owns a 4-1 record and a 2.22 ERA. Originally from Mississauga, Ontario, the right-handed hurler has struck out 35 batters in 28.1 innings pitched. Utilized as both a set-up man and closer for the Bucks, Moore is holding batters to a .225 average.
Catcher Kyle Pollock, a sophomore from the University of Evansville and originally from Canton, Ohio, is hitting .290 with four home runs. He has 28 RBI on the season to go along with a .443 slugging percentage.
All-Star third baseman Chesny Young, a sophomore from Mercer University and originally from Atlanta, Georgia, is currently sixth in the NWL in hitting with a .347 mark and leads the league in runs with 47. Tied for second in the league with 42 walks, he is also tied for second in the NWL in triples with three. Young is tied for the league lead in on-base percentage with a .475 mark.
In addition to the six Waterloo players being selected, both David Kerian and Jake Mahon have been named reserved players to the roster.
David Kerian (pronounced KEER-ee-un), a sophomore from the University of Illinois and originally from Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, is currently hitting .333 with four home runs. In 44 games, the infielder has driven in 32 runs with nine doubles. Kerian owns a .452 slugging percentage to go along with 15 stolen bases.
University of Evansville product Jake Mahon (pronounced MAY-haughn) is currently third in the NWL in on-base percentage with a .452 mark. With a .333 average in 33 games, the catcher has one home run to go along with 20 RBI. Mahon owns a .452 on-base percentage. He is originally from Plain City, Ohio.
The Big League Dreams Showcase rosters were selected by a panel of Major League Baseball Scouts. All players will participate in a day of workouts in front of scouts which will be followed by the double-header. Each game of the double-dip will feature a team of players from the visiting North Division against a team of South Division prospects. The first game will begin at 4:05 pm, pitting players from the North's Duluth, Rochester, Thunder Bay, and Willmar teams versus the South's Battle Creek, Eau Claire, Green Bay, and Wisconsin teams. Game two begins at 7:05 pm, where Bucks players will join forces with players from Alexandria, Mankato, and St. Cloud. They will face the South's team consisting of prospects from La Crosse, Lakeshore, Madison, and Wisconsin Rapids.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Northwoods League Foundation. The Northwoods League
Foundation utilizes the game of baseball to enrich the quality of life for children and families with an enduring and caring focus on Northwoods League communities.
Waterloo finishes up a two-game road trip tonight in Mankato. The Bucks return home to face the MoonDogs on Saturday at 7:05 pm. Group outings and single-game tickets are currently on sale.
