Willmar Stingers News Release

WILLMAR, Minn. - The Rochester Honkers continued their post-all-star-break resurgence, relying on outstanding pitching and timely hitting to defeat Willmar, 5-1. The Stingers offense was stymied by quality pitching from the Honkers and struggled to get a feel for the strike zone all night. With the loss, the Stingers fall 1 1/2 games behind the Duluth Huskies in the Northwoods League North Division wildcard race.

Willmar's Andrew Woeck (NC State) had a decent outing, pitching 6.0 innings, but was outgunned by 2013 NWL all-star Matt Kent. Kent pitched 6.0 innings of his own without allowing a run and it wasn't until the 7th inning that the Stingers cracked into the runs column. Tyler Leffler (Bradley) notched a leadoff base hit against Rochester reliever Hayden Edwards to begin the inning, despite trailing in the count 0-2. After a pair of strikeouts, Michael Suchy (Florida Gulf Coast) shot an 0-2 pitch to the gap in right-centerfield for an RBI double that accounted for the Stingers' only run. Suchy, the CDI Player of the game, finished the game 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a walk.

Next, the Stingers embark on an eight-game road trip that begins in Rochester and will feature the team's first foray into interleague play against South Division teams Green Bay and Madison. Colin Poche (Arkansas) will pitch for the Stingers tomorrow night against the Honkers.

The 2013 season is presented by Charter. For more on your Willmar Stingers please visit the West Central Tribune at www.wctrib.com.
